I purchased my Midas Gold, 1980 Triumph TR8 in November 2011. Being an owner of a "proper" Triumph (TR6), I had never considered myself a fan of the "wedge"; however, when the opportunity to own one presented itself, I took the plunge.
This particular car has the original color exterior and plaid interior, though it has a number of mechanical upgrades, such as an Edelbrock manifold, Holley four barrel carb and headers. All these upgrades do make it quite a capable road car, and much faster on the track and at a stoplight.
The car has been shown in Texas and out of state, and has picked up First Place awards at concours events, along with a Third Place at the 2012 VTR Nationals at the 2013 Houston Autorama.
In May 2012, it completed a seven-state, 2,700-mile drive with other members of the Texas Triumph Register. Perhaps the greatest highlight of the trip was driving my TR8 on the winding roads of the Great Smoky Mountains and on the Tail of the Dragon.
