Steve Olson 1976 Midget

My wife Carol and I have been driving this car since 1987 and have driven it nearly 200,000 miles ourselves.  It has never been restored, but it has been painted twice since we owned it and has had a couple engine overhauls.  It is a reliable car and completed the 2,000-mile trip to MG 2015 in Niagara Falls, Ontario recently without the slightest hiccup.  It has been further many times.  Several times it has seen both coasts and been into Canada.

I bought it wanting something cheap, fun to drive and simple to work on.  It has fulfilled those requirements easily.  Easy availability of parts keeps it on the road, and we drive it year-round.  The biggest improvement I have made was installing an overdrive transmission from a Triumph Spitfire.  We have never shied away from driving the modern highways at modern speeds, but now things in the engine bay sound less busy.   Space may be tight and creature comforts few, but it is certainly a blast to drive and it gets 35 mpg on the highway.  We plan to keep it and keep driving it for as far into the future as I can see.
