Triumph

1974 Triumph Spitfire - Edward K.

Tell us the story of your sports car *

This 1974 triumph spitfire story starts in Tennessee, sitting in a barn for many years. The Triumph was sold to a lady that took it to Florida in the hope of fixing it up but life changes happen and the triumph sat in the driveway for three more years. That's when I found it and thought that would be a great little car to fix up and I was right, with a lot of long nights and a lot of love, cooling and fuel. The brakes systems have all been replaced and the body has been striped down to the metal. Also the antenna hole has been filled in . The original color was white but I wanted something a little more, so the triumph was painted pearl white trying to keep it original with some changes. I owned the triumph for Three years taking the triumph to car shows and weekend cruises. Victoria British had the parts to get this project done from start to finish. If I need any replacement parts in the future I know I can count on Victoria British.

-Thank You,
Ed K. 1974 triumph spitfire.

I was introduced to British cars from my dad who from the time I was little had a Triumph TR4. He was forced to put it into storage for many years. When he finally got it back on the road it was in very rough shape. Few years after that he found a cheap Spitfire which I bought and restored.

Except for its first couple of years, the car has been somewhere in the family.  Like many classics, it spent part of its life garaged in non-working condition. In 2005, my wife's uncle obtained the car from his brother-in-law in Washington State (where it rode out the Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980), transported the car to Missouri and proceeded to get it back in working condition.

I had an MG 1970 before, because of economic problem i had to sell it, two years later this TR6 vehicle appeared in my good condition, difficult to miss the opportunity, I did everything possible yo acquire it. And also the cost was very reasonable for its good condition. Here in P.R. we have the PR British Cars Club a family club loving English cars. This vehicle was acquired in 2014.

When I found this car I was going to look at an MG GT and stopped to look at a Tr6. I thought this car looked a lot more like a sports car.Little did I know how much work it needed. After 6 yrs. and a frame off restoration by myson and me, this is the result.

I was introduced to Triumph cars through a friend’s Spitfire when I was in High School in Hartford, Connecticut. I never got to drive it, but I did go to the beach in it several times. After that introduction I was hooked on Triumphs. In 1975 I was able to obtain a Connecticut license plate with DRUID on it, which I put on a TR3A that I had bought two years earlier and made it so I could drive it.

Two or three months before I turned 16, My dad and I had been surfing all over the Internet, looking for a classic sports car to work on together as a project vehicle. I had found a few Pontiac Fieros, but none of which really seemed like the right car to buy. Then one night, my dad stumbled across a Kijiji listing for a blue 1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500.

I bought the 1970 TR-6 in September of 2014 from the original owner who bought it in Spain while serving in the USAF. My wife and I both thought that the car, though rough in many ways, had probably been well taken care of by the long time owner. As it turned out, that was not to be the case.

My son was 16 and being a PIA as most boys do at that age, but he was getting the car bug.
I thought buying a project may give us something to bond with.
Being British i was always attracted to the TR2. but TR2's are hard to find and expensive. so i bought a TR3 and made it look like a TR2.
