Eugene Rae's 1973 Midget
I’ve been talking for years about someday buying and restoring a British car. My dream was to find a 1950 to 1952 MG TD.
One evening in March of 2000, my brother-in-law called and said a guy he worked with had a 1973 MG Midget that he wanted to sell. I took his name and phone number and called the owner to get some information about the car. He told me he had started to restore the car, but had hurt his back and couldn’t finish the job. The car had been in a shed in his backyard for 8-1/2 years. He had totally gutted the interior, removed all chrome and started to do some patch work. That’s the way that I brought it home.
Thanks to the Victoria British catalog, I was able not only to purchase everything that I needed, but was able to use it as a guide to put the Midget back together.
I have had so much fun working on and driving my Midget. I enjoy taking my grandchildren and friends for rides.
My 1973 MG Midget won First Place in the Midget Chrome Bumper class three years in a row, from 2003 to 2005, at the All British Car Show in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
I still haven’t given up my dream of someday owning an MG TD, but for now, I love my Midget!
